Skechers is an American shoe company headquartered in Manhattan Beach, California, founded by CEO Robert Greenberg and his son Michael in 1992. After Robert left LA Gear, which he had founded in 1983, the Greenbergs set up Skechers as a distributor for Doc Martens. Importing knock-off Doc Martens boots ended in a legal battle between Skechers and R. Griggs Group. Skechers' early products were utility-style boots and skate shoes; the company has since diversified to include thousands of athletic, casual and dress styles for men, women, and children.[5]

Skechers makes an effort to maintain a trendy and stylish brand image by using celebrity-driven advertising, and has promoted its product with The Voice winner Danielle Bradbery, TV personality Brooke Burke-Charvet, marathon runner Meb Keflezighi, quarterback Joe Montana and entrepreneur Mark Cuban. In 2014, the company signed a deal with the owners of the race horse California Chrome to display the company's logo on various items worn by the horse and his handlers during the 2014 Belmont Stakes.

The company offers two distinct footwear categories: a lifestyle division that includes the charity line BOBS and Relaxed Fit comfort shoes, and a performance division that includes Skechers GOrun and GOwalk footwear. Through licensing agreements, the company also offers branded apparel, bags, watches, eyewear and additional merchandise. Skechers has an extensive network of global distributors that sell its product in over 120 countries and territories, and nearly 900 SKECHERS stores around the world.

In 1998, Skechers signed an agreement with ModaCAD Inc. to participate in ModaCAD's dynamic interactive, photo-realistic 3-D rendered virtual shopping mall.

In 2012, Skechers agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for $40 million based on a U.S. Federal Trade Commission complaint that it had misled customers with its Shape-Ups ads.

In the medieval period new shoes were available only to a tiny elite of aristocrats and wealthy merchants. However, it appears that in Britain almost all of the poor wore some kind of footwear, which was made possible through the widespread practice of remaking and repairing old shoes. Medieval shoes were made from leather, silk, and other cloths and up to the end of the sixteenth century, all men's footwear tended to be flat. The most extreme style of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries was the "poulaine," or "pike," which featured extremely pointed toes, sometimes up to four inches (10 centimeters) in length.

Men’s shoes offered an enormous variety of colours and styles during this decade. Though the conservative set stuck to oxfords, brogues and loafers, even the most conservative dress could include a pair of coloured suede shoes in a more conservative cut. The toe of the time was more rounded than in the fifties.
From the 1920’s to the 1950’s men’s shoes had an overall similar style and color palate. Lace up dress shoes were the most practical while boots were worn for work, sneakers for sports, sandals in the summer, and loafers for at home.  The choice of colors were brown, black, white or a two tone combination of these colors. What marks each vintage fashion decade different from the next is in the details. The shape of the toe, thickness of the heel, and decorative details define each era. For men’s shoes in the 1940’s the style was stuck between the ornamented 1930’s men’s shoes and the colorful 1950’s men’s shoes. Sturdy but elegant dress shoes, casual yet stylish leisure shoes, men’s 1940’s shoes have their place in men’s fashion history.
1944 Men’s basic boots or lace up oxford shoes

1940’s mens fashion in the early years was directly affected by WW2. Because leather was in such short supply for civilians, men’s shoes were very expensive to purchase. A single pair of leather Oxford could use up half a family’s ration stamp for an entire month. Unlike women’s shoes men were not fond of shoes made from reptile skins or synthetic materials. The only non-leather shoes they accepted were fabric Oxford made of cotton canvas in either brown or grey.

In 1960, an interwoven leather upper was popular for the summer and casual slip- on shoes were worn. Late in the sixties, moccasins became popular, and they were most likely designer versions of the hippies’ style.

The younger generation wore the Chelsea boot in the early sixties, popularised by the Beatles. This boot had a triangular elastic insert in both sides. Later, a boot with a side zipper and Cuban heel became popular.

The cowboy boot also became popular, again following the trend the Beatles had set.

The footwear of the hippies who have come to characterise the entire decade cannot be defined in simple terms. They went barefoot, wore simple sandals and moccasins and shopped at underground vintage clothing stores. A hippie could be seen wearing anything, as long as it did not conform to the fashion trends of the day.
